American Society of Hematology’s Sickle Cell Disease Efforts in Sub-Saharan Africa

Andrew Zapfel is the Manager for International Programs and Alliances at the American Society of Hematology (ASH). He is primarily responsible for coordinating the Consortium on Newborn Screening in Africa (CONSA) and promoting the ASH capacity building programs in sub-Saharan Africa.

Erin Sheek is the International Programs Manager ASH and has been with the society for eight years. She oversees a portfolio of global capacity-building programs, including the Visitor Training Program (VTP) and the ASH partnership with Health Volunteers Overseas.

Dr. Lulu Chirande is a consultant Pediatric Hematologist and Oncologist at Muhimbili National Hospital. She is a lecturer at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), and the National Coordinator for CONSA.
